MEMBER 168 Richard Telfer 2001 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.0
Bought towards the end of last year, 29000 miles on the clock, traded the Suzuki Jimny I’d been trialling (the Jimny was almost un-stoppable, but didn’t have the right soundtrack!)
4” Superide springs - Started with OME 2” lift then upgraded to 4” using the various parts listed below. The OME 2” was really good on & off road, worked well on a Defender I had for a while too, I would recommend it as a first step, nothing required except 4 springs & shocks.
OME shocks - Excellent shocks.
ProComp 4” fitting kit - Needed to re-centre the axles under the Jeep, the tie bars drag the axles to one side if you go higher than 2”.
Daystar front & rear upper adjustable control arms - Needed for correct drive shaft alignment
Trail Master front & rear lower control arms - 1” longer than standard, as you lift the Jeep higher the axles are dragged towards the centre of the vehicle, these + the adjustable uppers allow the wheels to re-centre in the wheel arch.
1” body lift - More clearance (35s in mind!).
1” motor mount lift - Maintains engine & gearbox alignment, avoids having to reposition the transfer box linkage (this linkage let me down at the start of the Inverarnie trial, cured by the motor mount lift).
Slip yoke eliminator & custom rear CV driveshaft - Had to have the gearbox support plate lowered until I fitted this, otherwise the vibrations get out of hand, which lost me ground clearance. The Jeep is now totally vibration free.
Extended stainless steel brake hoses - Standard ones were starting to stretch at full articulation.
33x12.5x15 Goodyear Wrangler MTR on 8x15 Daytona rims, destroyed performance on road!
Great tyres on & off road.
Bushwacker 6” pocket flares - To cover the extra tread width, too brittle, got damaged several times recently, may change to a urethane type in the future.
Brute Force air filter & intake system - Does what it says on the tin, awesome, and a great sound. Got some performance back.
Gibson exhaust - Nice sound & 15 BHP & 25 ft.lb!
Recovery hooks front & rear (rear drag a bit) & fire extinguisher/first aid kit onboard.
