1959 Sll LAND ROVER

This Land Rover rolled of the production line on the 6th November 1959 as a station wagon it is one of 20 that were made that day for the uk market.

I acquired the Land Rover on the Black Isle in June of 2000 it was at that time still a station wagon and had 6 former keepers.

Over the next four years I stripped it back to the chassis and rebuilt it into the landy you see today.

It is mainly used as a fun vehicle and trialled at events organised and run by the Highland Four Wheel Drive Club.

Some small modifications were made during the build these include K&N airfilter, Weber carb, Rocky Mountain spin on oil filter etc.

The swivels are filled with constant velocity grease the same as you will find in CV joints in modern cars.

The top king pins have been drilled and tapped for grease nipples which has turned out to be unnecessary as when i went to fit them the rakio bush and existing king pins were saturated in grease.

It has so far turned out to be reliable even although i have given it some abuse lately.
