About the Club

The Highland 4 Wheel Drive Club runs a number of Cross Country Vehicle Trials & Off-road events across the Scottish Highlands.

The club welcomes all types of 4x4, popular vehicles include Land Rovers, Jeeps, Suzukis and more unusual military 4x4s.

Events are open to club members and are divided into different classes depending on vehicle wheelbase and modifications.

Trials are run under the regulations of the RAC Motor Sports Association.

Brief intro to Trials

Cross Country Vehicle Trials are held on private land with each section set up using a minimum of 8 pairs of canes (gates) over rough ground.

Vehicles enter one at a time, the object is to get through all 8 gates (ideally) without touching any canes, missing out any gates, stopping, reversing or getting stuck! Penalty points are given for a stop, a shunt, hitting a cane, etc.

Sections often include ditches, deep mud, water, rocks, ruts, sleep slopes and uneven ground.
